The Insta360 One X probably does the best job here.

The camera on my Pixel 2 would blow all of these away, but it also cost twice as much money and doesn’t create 360 videos.įeel free to make up your own mind, or I can spoil it with my thoughts. Can you see anything?Ĭompared to the last test, all three of these cameras do a pretty good job.
This is an extremely difficult location, with a mixture of bright lights and dark shadows. How well does the camera deal with the high ISO? You can see how that camera did in its native resolution here. The video wasn’t adjusted in the editing process, but the One X’s 5.7K video was downconverted to match the 4K of the other cameras. Each time it switches, the name of the camera is at the bottom of the sphere. The order of the clips is One X, Mi Sphere, Theta V. Also make sure you use your mouse, or move your phone/tablet, to look around the sphere. All of the OneX 2's improvements were for video and not stills, and nearly all other new 360 hardware releases focus solely on video. If you’re viewing this within the Forbes website, make sure the resolution is maxed (the gear icon at the bottom of the video frame). It's disappointing we've seen nothing new since then. So far I've been sticking with my old Mi Sphere because the Z1 doesn't offer enough to warrant 10x the price for my personal needs. No other camera manufacturer has such clunky/ill-conceived bracketing settings They later made a "less awful" 6-shot mode, but some of the EV steps are still 1EV but others are 2EV. Poorly thought out bracketing settings (for example, 6-shot bracketing had 1EV steps, so only had 1EV more dynamic range than 3-shot. Saving 16 bits per sample even when the sensor only has 10 bit depth as opposed to bitpacking, making files 60% larger. Xphase made a half-hearted attempt to add a full RAW pipeline, but it was plagued with issues they never fixed: (The JPEGs that are saved by the camera only use around 205 values out of 255 possible, and xphase is attempting to perform lens shading/vignetting correction after JPEG conversion which leads to color artifacts.) Add to that lens fogging and stitching calibration shift issues. The Xphase "pro" has incredible detail but an imaging pipeline that attempts to fix color management problems in poor-quality JPEGs.
Repairs/exchanges apparently have to go back to China and you pay shipping. Front focus/nearsightedness getting worse as the camera warmed up. #Insta 360 one x vs ricoh theta z1 matterport cracked
Quality control problems in their batteries and/or charging/BMS leading to quite a few reports of batteries swelling to the point that the case cracked. Color mismatch between lenses on some units that would occur even when not in a flare situation.
The Qoocam 8k had huge potential, but wound up flawed: Sadly, no, this does not seem to be the case. So before I pull the trigger and buy a Z1, just double checking that there hasn't been a recent camera to surpass it. Image quality and dynamic range are probably the most important factors to me. (it might be nice to shoot a little bit of video here and there, but I already have two very capable video cameras - not 360 though)
I shoot real estate photos and videos for a living and looking for good quality PHOTOS primarily. Are there any 360-degree cameras that rival the STILLS quality of the Ricoh Theta Z1 but for (preferably) lower price?
